Things I Learned From a Movie
As I write this post, I'm in the Philippines. Whenever I come here I work super hard within our network of churches but I also have some downtime since I don't watch TV and my transportation is somewhat limited. During one of our breaks we decided to catch a movie. This would be our 2nd movie in a year. The first one being Wonder Woman. My wife (not a movie person) loved it! Well, to continue our winning streak we decided to watch the new Thor movie. She loved it and I liked it too but unfortunately missed the ending by taking a short nap :) While awake however, I was able to capture some nuggets that can apply to leadership and life.
Here are some of my takeaways:
Great Leaders Run Towards Problems
Thor said, “I choose to run towards my problems and not away from them because that’s what heroes do.”
Leaders Lose Trust When They Are Inconsistent
Banner said to Loki, “Last time we saw you, you were trying to kill everyone. What are you up to these days?” Loki replied, “It varies from moment to moment.”
Potential Will Always Remain Merely Wasted Possibilities Unless Followed By Actionable Steps
Thor told Loki, “You’ll always be the god of mischief. You could have been so much more.”
Great Leaders Are Willing To Change
Thor told Loki, “Life is about growth and change. But you, my dear god of mischief brother, just want to stay the same.”
Great Leaders Are Always Inviting Others To Join Them In the Journey towards a Better Future
While in prison, Thor met a rock creature planning an escape. He said, “Hey, man. I’m Korg. We’re gonna get outta here. Wanna come?”
